2003 Milestones

  • IPEN expands its scope of work beyond POPs via participation in the process to negotiate the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) – an agreement called for by heads of state at the World Summit on Sustainable Development in 2002.
  • IPEN launches a SAICM campaign to promote integration of chemical safety into the sustainable development agenda and articulate SAICM’s 2020 Goal.
  • IPEN is awarded a Special Recognition Award by the Intergovernmental Forum on Chemical Safety for exemplary work during the Stockholm Convention negotiations. 
  • The Global Environment Facility officially approves USD$1million for IPEN to conduct the International POPs Elimination Project (IPEP).
