2008 Milestones

  • IPEN launches the SAICM Global Outreach Campaign together with major international NGO networks from across the public health, labor, environment and agriculture sectors. The Outreach Campaign focuses on educating groups about SAICM and how they could leverage international chemical policies to advance their local objectives for environmental health.
  • IPEN holds its General Assembly in India, where over 70 NGOs from 35 countries attend to celebrate IPEN’s 10-year anniversary, share skills/experiences, and conduct regional and international NGO cooperative planning.
  • Based on the assessments conducted in 2007, 8 Regional Action Plans are drafted, and serve as key internal and regional organizational exercises for planning and resources mobilization.
  • IPEN engages in a global mercury sampling study, via a collaborative effort with the German government.
  • IPEN participates in the second Open-Ended Working Group to prepare for the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on mercury in Nairobi, Kenya.
  • IPEN publishes “An NGO Guide to SAICM” and “An NGO Guide to Persistent Organic Pollutants,” making them available in nine and six languages, respectively.
