IPEN's Work Broadly Presented at Dioxin 2024 Conference
IPEN work was broadly presented at 44th International Symposium on Halogenated Persistent Organic Pollutants – shortly Dioxin 2024, held in Singapore from September 29 till October 3.
There were 5 IPEN POs representatives, two from Arnika and 3 from Nexus3 Foundation presenting following abstracts/topics available also on Researchgate:
- POPs in the Vicinity of a Hazardous Waste Incinerator in Aguado, Philippines https://www.researchgate.net/publication/384501491_POPs_in_the_Vicinity_of_a_Hazardous_Waste_Incinerator_in_Aguado_Philippines

- Tetrabromobisphenol A in Consumer Products Made of Recycled Plastic https://www.researchgate.net/publication/384502711_Tetrabromobisphenol_A_in_Consumer_Products_Made_of_Recycled_Plastic
IPEN PO’s participation at Dioxin 2024 was a success, with IPEN being highlighted in each presentation. One presentation, focusing on tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) in consumer products made from e-waste plastics, attracted significant attention. The presentation suggested that this brominated flame retardant, which does not meet the criteria for listing under the Stockholm Convention despite being an endocrine disruptor, should be addressed during the negotiations of the global plastics treaty. The abstract was presented by Krishna Zaki from Nexus3, Indonesia.
Another topic that garnered considerable interest was PFAS in waste incineration residues, presented by Jindrich Petrlik. This abstract featured new data on PFAS levels in waste incineration residues collected from Czechia, the Netherlands, the Philippines, and Thailand.
