Non-combustion Techniques for POPs Waste Destruction
Non-combustion techniques for the destruction of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) waste such as PCBs, dioxins and brominated flame retardants are urgently needed to safely eliminate the world's growing stockpile of contaminated materials. cOther methods currently used, such as incineration and cement kilns, attempt to destroy POPs but actually are well-known to create new POPs (so-called unintentionally produced or U-POPs).
This technical briefing paper from IPEN describes non-combustion techniques that are proven and accessible for developing countries.
