Implementation of the Stockholm Convention in Paraguay: Participation of civil society in awareness-raising on POPs.
The activity highlights an awareness campaign undertaken by Altervida to broadcast information about POPs and the Stockholm Convention. A workshop was held with the participation of an IPEN expert. Additional workshops were conducted in communities, with the target audience being a number of NGOs and NGO networks. The audience also included stakeholders such as health care workers, university personnel and government officials working in agriculture, human ecology and municipal Government. As part of the campaign, a bilingual leaflet on POPs and the Stockholm Convention was produced in Spanish and Guaraní, the national Indigenous language. Other materials were distributed at the workshops including videos, CDs, web resources and information about citizen participation in the Stockholm Convention. As a result of the activities, Altervida was invited by the Government to be part of the National Coordination Committee to develop the NIP of the Stockholm Convention in Paraguay.
