Awareness on Socio Eco Effects POPs in Nigeria

Awareness-raising on socioeconomic effects of POPs in Nigeria.

This awareness-raising workshop concerned the impacts and effects of POPs to human and environmental health. It was attended by 18 participants who learned the disastrous consequences of POPs and obsolete stockpiles of chemicals to health and environment. Topics included the Africa Stockpiles Programme, socioeconomic effects of POPs on environment and health, training needs, and the role of NGOs in the Convention. Participants included NGOs, university faculty from University College Hospital in Ibadan, and government officials. The workshop identified major challenges, including an administrative and legislative framework; need for synergy; enforcement; enlightenment and public education; and research to support advocacy.
