Globalizing Local Concerns, Localizing Global Policy
Because it works both internationally and with grassroots and national groups, IPEN is uniquely positioned to “connect the dots” between organizations and to identify, shape and leverage opportunities to eliminate toxic chemical hazards around the world.
IPEN helps build the capacity of its Participating Organizations to influence local policy, create greater public awareness of toxics issues, and help their governments implement international policies, such as chemicals treaties and other chemical safety policy agreements.
Since 2004, IPEN has initiated and implemented several multimillion dollar (US) projects, including direct support to over 400 project activities in 80 countries. Major IPEN projects include:
- China Chemical Safety Project
- Global Egg Sampling
- Mercury in Fish and Human Hair
- International POPs Elimination Project
- International SAICM Implementation Project
- Eliminating Lead in Paint
- Toxics in Consumer Products
- SAICM Global Outreach Campaign
IPEN also raises awareness and builds support on-the-ground for its Honoring Minamata and Toxics-Free Rio + 20 Campaigns, and strengthens bonds between partners in other sectors, such as labor and health.
