Snow-capped mountains with rugged peaks and valleys are seen under a partly cloudy sky. Patches of snow and rocky terrain are visible in the foreground, with a mix of green areas on lower slopes.

IPEN supports the region with valuable information and data on pollution that would otherwise not be available. IPEN also provides technical expertise and recommendations for addressing pollution that are adapted to the needs of the region. Lack of public access to information and data on toxic chemicals and plastics and plastic waste are significant problems in the region.

The EECCA region is geographically defined by the broad Eurasian Steppe, mountainous terrains in the Caucasus, and significant natural resources. Culturally, they represent a crossroads between Europe and Asia, with a complex history influenced by trade routes and post-Soviet political shifts, with a wide and diverse mix of languages, religions, and traditions. Despite political challenges, the region stands united in its work to address pollution. Approaches on how to solve toxic health and environmental problems are well communicated among IPEN POs, who work together to openly discuss challenges and ways forward.

A group of about 30 people of various ages stands together posing for a photo in front of a building with red brick walls and dark doors. Most people are smiling and looking at the camera.
