Global Action on Toxic Pesticides

IPEN works with our partners through the Stockholm Convention, the Global Framework on Chemicals (GFC), and other global policy forums to end the production and use of hazardous pesticides.

Stockholm Convention

Several toxic pesticides, including DDT, were among the first “dirty dozen” chemicals banned globally under the Stockholm Convention. IPEN continues to advocate at the Convention for global bans on hazardous pesticides.

Global Framework on Chemicals

IPEN works with a broad coalition of sustainable agriculture advocates, women’s health groups, labor organizations, public health and medical groups, and others through the GFC and its Global Alliance on Highly Hazardous Pesticides (HHPs) to further the goal of a global phase-out of HHPs by 2035.

Environment and Science

IPEN advocates for global action to end threats from toxic pesticides at other global forums. At the 2024 UN Environment Assembly (UNEA), IPEN released a report documenting global threats from HHPs. Pesticide policies may also be discussed at the Science-Policy Panel meetings, the POPRC, and other global policy venues.
