A simplified, color-coded map of Europe with countries shaded in green, red, blue, or yellow, lacking labels or a legend. Surrounding areas are greyed out. The image focuses on central and eastern Europe.

The Central, Eastern and Western Europe (CEWE) region brings together European countries both inside and outside the European Union. Culturally and economically, it is often viewed as two broad sub-regions: Western Europe, with its long history of political and economic integration, and Central & Eastern Europe, shaped by its position between the former Western and Eastern blocs and its more recent transition from centrally planned to market-based economies.

Despite their differences and ongoing political challenges, countries across the CEWE region share a strong commitment to tackling pollution. They work together on issues ranging from contaminated sites and toxic pesticides to industrial pollution and hazardous chemicals in everyday products.

A group of people stand outdoors in front of a fence, holding two banners: one reads IPEN a toxics-free future and the other reads ARNIKA with a yellow sun-like design.
