IPEN plays a vital role in Francophone Africa by facilitating collaborations among its POs and enabling them to address shared challenges. Through IPEN projects, POs gain the tools needed to monitor environmental issues and to inform their communities about threats from toxic substances while promoting safer practices and alternatives.
Francophone Africa is primarily concentrated in West and Central Africa, characterized by a rich cultural tapestry that reflects its diverse heritage. French serves as one official language alongside numerous local languages, such as Wolof, Bambara, and Lingala. The geography of the region varies widely, encompassing arid deserts, lush rainforests, and vibrant Atlantic coastal areas. These countries share a colonial history that has significantly influenced their legal and educational systems and their consequent response to toxic health threats. IPEN supports POs in the region with technical, scientific, and policy guidance to enhance their advocacy efforts.
