Women's Caucus Meeting (April 2024)

On Tuesday 24 April, more than 20 women attended the IPEN Women’s Caucus meeting in Ottawa, Canada, during the fourth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee to develop an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment (INC-4),  in Ottawa, Canada.

There were presentations from Poyeon Kim with Wonjin Institute of Occupational and Environmental Health (WIOEH) on PFAS and mercury in cosmetics, from Rochelle Diver with International Indian Treaty Council (IITC), Alaska Community Action on Toxics (ACAT), and more. 

Key outcomes included the need for of women participation for successful negotiations, the continued need to raise the issues about plastic’s health effects, and the importance of raising awareness with information to women-workers; frontline communities, and Indigenous peoples.
